Male Breast Surgery, Before After Photos, Details
Gynecomastia surgery reduces breast size, flattening and enhancing the chest contours.
In severe cases of gynecomastia, the weight of excess breast tissue may cause the breasts to sag and stretch the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). In these cases the position and size of the areola can be surgically improved and excess skin may be removed.
Plastic surgery to correct gynecomastia is technically called reduction mammaplasty.

Are you a man who is embarrassed to take off your shirt because of extra fullness or fat in your chest?
Gynecomastia is a condition of overdeveloped or enlarged breasts in men that can occur at any age. The condition can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity, obesity, or the use of certain drugs. In very rare instances it can indicate a malignancy. Gynecomastia can affect one or both breasts, sometimes unevenly. Newborns, boys going through puberty and older men may develop gynecomastia as a result of normal changes in hormone levels. If you are affected by this condition, you may be a candidate for male breast surgery with Munster board certified Plastic Surgeon Doctor Jason Petrungaro.
Gynecomastia understandably causes intense emotional discomfort for a boy or man and it severely impairs self confidence. Many men avoid certain physical activities and intimacy simply to hide their condition. Board certified Plastic Surgeon Doctor Jason Petrungaro understands how traumatic this condition can be. He has helped dozens of boys and men through surgical correction of gynecomastia, and he finds great reward in restoring the confidence of his patients.

Gynecomastia Surgery Procedure
Male breast reduction surgery is typically done under general anesthesia. In most cases the patient will go home the same day with follow-up in the office of board certified Plastic Surgeon Doctor Jason Petrungaro in 1-2 days. There are various techniques used to reduce a male breast, and which one is used depends on how severe the breasts are affected by gynecomastia.
The cannula is moved back and forth in a controlled motion to loosen the excess fat, which is then removed from the body by vacuum suction.
There are various liposuction techniques that may be used; the technique most appropriate in your case will be defined prior to your procedure. Read more about liposuction with Munster liposuction surgeon Doctor Jason Petrungaro here.
Sometimes gynecomastia is treated with both liposuction and excision.

During your gynecomastia surgery, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions and an elastic bandage or compression garment may be used to minimize swelling and support your new chest contour as it heals after surgery. It will be very helpful to wear this compression garment for 6-8 weeks after surgery. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect. If it is placed, it will be removed in the clinic in 5-7 days. Showering is typically fine within 24-48 hours after surgery.
Recovery from gynecomastia surgery is very straightforward. That being said, it is extremely important to follow all of the postoperative instructions that you are given by Doctor Petrungaro. Pain is very well-controlled with oral prescription pain medications. You will be seen in the clinic within 1-2 days following your surgery, and then every 1-2 weeks for the first 6 weeks. Your incisions will likely be covered with skin glue or special tape for the first week. It is very important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force, swelling, abrasion, or motion while they are healing.
Depending on the complexity of the surgery, Doctor Petrungaro will require you to take up to one week off work or school. All strenuous activity is prohibited for the first few weeks, at which time you may start to slowly increase activity to include things such as brisk walking or use of an elliptical. Any type of activity requiring extreme arm movements or contact is prohibited for at least 6 weeks. If you commit to following the instructions of Munster gynecomastia surgeon Doctor Jason Petrungaro, you will be well on your way to a newly defined chest and a confident new lifestyle!
Gynecomastia Surgery Results*
Gynecomastia surgery can dramatically change your life for the better. Doctor Petrungaro’s patients find that they can suddenly wear form-fitting clothing, they can take their shirts off at the pool, and their self image has vastly improved.
Results of gynecomastia surgery are visible immediately, and the vast majority of patients are overwhelmingly happy with the new look of their chest. Like all Plastic Surgery procedures, your chest will still need time to heal and settle, a process which will take a few months. During this time your incision lines will begin to fade as well. You can help maintain the results of your gynecomastia surgery longer if you commit to a healthy diet and lifestyle without major weight fluctuations.
If gynecomastia resulted from the use of certain prescription medications or drugs (including steroids), you must be fully free from these substances in order to maintain your results.
