Doctor Jason M. Petrungaro MD FACS
My name is Doctor Jason Petrungaro, and please allow me to be the first person to welcome you to Petrungaro Plastic Surgery! We are proud to be voted the #1 Cosmetic Surgery Center in Northwest Indiana, and I am confident you will feel the same way if we are fortunate to treat you here at our office! I would like to thank you for visiting the website, and I hope the information found here will not only be educational but also inspiring to all people interested in learning more about Plastic Surgery.
I am a proud native of Munster, Indiana who graduated from Munster High School in 1995. I then attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating with honors in 1999. From there I received my medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2003. My training includes a residency in General Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago (2008), a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the University of Rochester in New York (2009), and a residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Tennessee in Memphis (2011).
Prior to founding my private practice and returning to my home of Northwest Indiana and the Chicago area, I was an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in the world-renowned Texas Medical Center, the largest medical center in the world. The Plastic Surgery program at Baylor College of Medicine is widely accepted as one of the finest and most prestigious in the nation. I spent a significant amount of time at Houston Methodist Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital, and the Texas Children’s Hospital, caring for people of all ages suffering from trauma, cancer, and functional or aesthetic problems. I gladly dedicated a significant amount of time to the plastic surgery residents of Baylor College of Medicine, educating them and training them to be future plastic surgeons.
I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in cosmetic surgeries of the breasts, body, and face. Having completed full residencies and fellowships in General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Hand Surgery, I take pride in having the expertise to address essentially any patient’s surgical needs anywhere on the body. I firmly believe in the philosophy of patient-centered care: focusing on taking the time to truly listen to my patients and their surgical vision, and then turning that vision into a gorgeous surgical reality. Together we will develop a treatment plan specifically tailored to your specific cosmetic desires and goals. I find great reward in spending time with my patients and keeping them informed and involved in the decision-making process, from initial consultation to postoperative follow-up, with a strong dedication to excellent bedside manner, patient safety, and of course, beautiful results! At Petrungaro Plastic Surgery, we make your beautiful happen. We hope to see you in the office soon!
Having Plastic Surgery is no doubt a significant event. Sometimes a person needs it to cure and reconstruct a disease, sometimes a person needs it to make a body part work better, and sometimes a person makes a conscious decision to undergo Plastic Surgery “on purpose” to change one’s appearance. No matter the reason for needing or wanting Plastic Surgery, my philosophy on the entire process is that it is a very personal experience. It may be frightening to a woman needing breast reconstruction because of breast cancer. It may be exciting to a woman who is getting a tummy tuck. It may be literally relieving to a man with carpal tunnel syndrome. And to just about everyone, surgery itself is downright intimidating — but it doesn’t have to be.
Putting the patient first: As a proponent of patient-centered care, I believe that effective communication is essential between the surgeon and the patient. We become a team once we decide to proceed with surgery — I pledge to respect your wishes and goals, and you as the patient commit to following my instructions in order to achieve the best results. The common thread throughout the entire process is open communication, and I take great pride in truly listening to my patients. Like snowflakes, each person is different, and each patient has their own definition of beauty. Together we will define your goals and develop a highly-specialized treatment plan that will help you achieve natural, long-lasting results that will be exceptionally gratifying for both patient and surgeon.
As a board certified Plastic Surgeon, it is my job to guide my patients through every step of the surgical process, from initial consultation through postoperative recovery. It is also my job to be up to date with the most recent surgical procedures and patient safety protocols. And being board certified in Plastic Surgery means that I was formally trained in a recognized Plastic Surgery residency program and that I am trusted to both expertly perform the surgeries in my specialty and to be able to safely take care of my patients both before and after surgery. One of my wisest mentors once told me, “Good surgeons know how to operate, great surgeons know when to operate.”
Patients are the reason doctors exist. I truly respect that fact and dedicate myself and my Plastic Surgery practice to achieving the highest standards of honesty, integrity, professionalism, and surgical expertise. I look forward to seeing you in the office!
In today’s world, a patient considering Plastic Surgery has a staggering amount of choices at their fingertips. The Internet has revolutionized the ability to find detailed information about procedures. Physician websites are beautifully produced and very convincing to potential patients. Message boards allow real-time discussions among patients. Because of this, it can be very difficult and downright confusing to choose the right Plastic Surgeon, and patients are easily blinded to why board certification matters. Many health care providers are now performing Plastic Surgery procedures, but that doesn’t mean they are all qualified to perform Plastic Surgery. It is of utmost importance to find and choose a Plastic Surgeon who is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). I am proud to be one of these Plastic Surgeons.
